Passing of a leader

Hon. Esther Golar, State Representative for the 6th District, passed away on Monday, September 21. She served admirably and dutifully until the very end, and my thoughts and prayers are with her family.

With Representative Golar’s unfortunate passing, the 6th District Representative seat in the General Assembly now remains opens. There will be two opportunities to fill the seat:

*First, the ward committeemen for the wards that comprise the 6th District will make an appointment to serve the remainder of Representative Golar’s term from now until January of 2017.

*Second, the period for collecting petition signatures to be on the ballot for the March 15, 2016, primary is running now until the end of November. All candidates must qualify to get on the ballot regardless of the outcome of the appointment process.

I am seeking the appointment and preparing for the campaign for 6th District State Representative.

Why am I doing this?

Both my passion and skills draw me to mission-driven work. I believe that public office provides the right mix of policy and grassroots activism, and that this mix will allow me to have a positive impact on the communities that I would represent.

Why will I be successful?

I have the ability to hit the ground running as a state representative and as a candidate.

On August 28, I left Lawyers Lend-A-Hand to Youth after 7 years of service. My plan was to spend time reflecting and exploring so as to figure out how best to use my skills and passion in service to the community. I can now spend that time hopefully serving as Representative and running a strong campaign for the seat.

How can you help?

During my 2011 aldermanic campaign, the network of supporters was key to our success. The best example being that we collected our petition signatures with volunteers in just a month and filed on the first day.

*Volunteering to collect petition signatures – If you are available to volunteer for a day (or two or three . . .) between now and November 20, please e-mail  Ideally, we need people during morning and afternoon commuting times and on the weekend.

*Making a donation –  We are working on a tight deadline and need funds to quickly get our message out to voters.  You can donate online by clicking the button below.  If you wish to donate by check, please call 773.377.5066, so we can arrange for the check to be picked up.

Thank you for your support.
